Description of Work

The Assistant Professor of Practice will have responsibility in the areas of Teaching and Service. The successful candidate will teach and work in a collaborative and collegial fashion with administration, students and a strong team of faculty artists, scholars and staff in a vibrant School of Theatre & Film and the associated Nebraska Repertory Theatre. The successful candidate will be expected to remain current and up to date in the disciplines and study of Theatre and Film via faculty development.

Teaching: Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including but not limited to: Voice Production for the Stage, Vocal Dialects, Beginning to Advanced Acting, Stage Movement. Serve as vocal coach for School and Nebraska Repertory productions. Advise, mentor and/or supervise undergraduate and graduate students, projects and/or theses.

Service: Serve on faculty committees for the department, college and university. Recruit on behalf of the performance program. Community service is encouraged. Provide service/leadership in appropriate professional organizations in Theatre, Film or New Media.

Other: Work in a collegial fashion with faculty, staff, students, and administration; perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Theatre and Film.

Minimum Required Qualifications

MFA in Acting or equivalent professional experience.
• Certification or demonstrate equivalent knowledge in voice, speech and/or textwork pedagogies in a recognized vocal discipline/technique (e.g. Linklater, Fitzmaurice, Berry, Lessac, Rodenburg, or Miller Voice Method).
• Two years teaching experience at the university level in one of the three areas of Voice, Movement or Acting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Voiceover in Film/TV or Emerging Media.
• Proven experience in a movement discipline (e.g. acro, circus, viewpoints, Lecoq, Margolis, AMS/Williamson Technique, contact improve, Laban, or Feldenkrais).
• Professional experience coaching actors using heightened text.
• Experience in the recruitment and advising of first-generation students and a diverse student body.
