Description of Work

The Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies is seeking a faculty member with expertise in Early Childhood Education. The successful candidate for this position will have: (1) expertise in child development and early childhood education; (2) excellent teaching skills for both face-to-face and online formats; (3) an aptitude for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; and (4) the ability to collaborate with faculty in development of innovative educational programming.
The person in this position will be the instructor of an undergraduate, large section class, courses offered for the Great Plains IDEA programs, especially Early Childhood Education in a Mobile Society (ECEMS), and other courses related to child development and early childhood education assigned by the Department Chair. This person will assist in curriculum development and assessment of the ECEMS program and other programs offered by the department. The person will also collaborate with other departmental faculty in the training of pre-service teachers through the Child Development Laboratory.
The person will serve on committees, participate in curriculum and program development and accept assignments related to the faculty governance of the department. Expectations include: (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; (2) managing internship experiences and student projects; (3) participating in programming and curriculum development for CYAF and Great Plains IDEA; (4) marketing CYAF programs in order to recruit potential students; (5) contributing to the knowledge base in early childhood through the scholarship of teaching; (6) providing outreach and engagement consistent with a faculty member at a land grant university; and (7) participating in departmental, college, and other committees as appropriate. This is a three year contract for a non-tenure track 9-month faculty position that is renewable upon acceptable performance.

Minimum Required Qualifications

•Master’s degree in early childhood education, child development, or closely related field
•5 years of early childhood teaching experience as a lead/head teacher.
•Current teaching certification in Nebraska (or eligibility for certification) as an early childhood education teacher.

Preferred Qualifications

•Doctoral degree, or plans to complete a doctoral degree in early childhood education, child development, or closely related field.
•Experience coaching, mentoring, and supervising early childhood pre-service or in-service teachers .
•Clear description of a teaching and learning pedagogy that includes teaching both traditional and non-traditional college students.
•Experience providing care and education to infants and toddlers.
