Description of Work

Perform and coordinate landscape maintenance and repair in a designated area of responsibility.
Provide superior quality plant care to turf, trees (including arbor work), shrubs and perennials.
Participate in mowing, planting (including soil improvement), removing snow, removing litter and other landscape tasks.
Select method of pest control for landscape plantings.
Special responsibilities may be in garden and arboretum areas.
Train other staff and students in performance of their duties. Monitor and provide feedback on work performed.
Determine and coordinate specialized seasonal operations.
Operate and maintain equipment as necessary, such as plows, tractors, sprayers, and other landscape equipment.
Maintain logs and records to schedule work.
Coordinate with Assistant Manager and other crews as needed.
Remove snow and ice from steps, sidewalks and drives using manual and powered equipment and materials.
Frequent travel to various work areas and work in inclement weather required.
Evening and weekend work may be required on occasion.
Other duties as assigned.
A Pesticide Applicator’s license is necessary within six months of hire.

Minimum Required Qualifications

High school or equivalent experience. At least three (3) years’ experience in landscape maintenance or commercial landscape.
Knowledge of and/or experience with:
-perennials/annuals/shrubs – establishment and maintenance
-Insects/weed/disease control and maintenance
-equipment operation
-use of trucks, tractors, loaders, and other related equipment
-good organization and computer skills
Must be able to obtain an EPA Pesticide Applicator license within six months of hire. Must have a valid state-issued driver’s license.
All applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a DMV background check authorizing them to operate university vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidate will have relevant coursework, or specialized training beyond high school. Prior supervisory experience in landscape or construction environment. Knowledge of and/or experience with equipment maintenance, irrigation systems and controls. CPR and first aid training. CDL license preferred.
