Description of Work

Implement compliance plans and procedures and conduct campus audits relative to hazardous and special waste management and oil pollution prevention regulations. Arrange for and oversee off-site waste shipments, including coding, permitting, profiling, sampling, preparation for transport, and shipping documentation. Draft and/or maintain compliance management procedural and program documents, as well as general guidance for the campus (in the form of “Safe Operating Procedures”). Train and/or advise campus operators of regulatory requirements and feasible alternatives for achieving and maintaining compliance. Draft and submit applicable permit applications and associated reports. Monitor federal, state, and local regulations and proposed changes and advise management of potential impacts to campus operations; draft comments on behalf of UNL to proposed permit and rulemaking activities relative to waste management.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biological or environmental sciences, engineering, geology, or related field of science, plus one year experience with waste management and transport regulations required. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to waste management and transport essential. Good oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills and attention to detail, and basic computer skills necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with and general knowledge of other major environmental regulations (e.g., Oil Pollution Prevention Act, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, TSCA, CERCLA, etc.). CHMM or other related professional certification preferred.
