Description of Work

The successful candidate will be expected to assume a leadership role with respect to the department’s first-year mathematics program through the calculus, ensuring both the quality of the department’s offerings and the professional development of graduate teaching assistants. In addition to being an excellent teacher, the successful candidate will be ready to make significant contributions in one or more of the following areas: selection or development of curriculum materials; implementation and oversight of instructional technology such as WeBWorK; supervision and mentorship of GTAs; development of online courses; support of the department’s programs for K-12 teachers and activities related to the scholarship of teaching. Department service duties will typically be connected to the faculty member’s instructional work.

The appointment is term renewable and affords the possibility for promotion to associate and full professor of the practice. The initial appointment is for a three-year term.

Minimum Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a doctorate in mathematics or a closely related field (including mathematics education). Moreover, he or she should be an outstanding teacher with a commitment to the scholarship of teaching at the collegiate level.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience and expertise in leading professional development activities, supervising instructors, instructional technology or curriculum development is preferred.
