Description of Work

Focused Assignment – Farm and Ranch Analytics (approximately 100% of time):
This is a 12-month, non-tenured position, in the Department of Agricultural Economics with an appointment of 100% Extension.

The incumbent will be responsible for biennially revising the department’s 100+ enterprise budgets, developing new cost and return estimates, and conducting surveys such as the annual land and lease survey and the biennial custom rates survey. Other responsibilities include development of decision aid tools, conducting economics analyses of agricultural enterprises, and assisting in the development and joint dissemination of educational programs for farm and ranch producers. The incumbent will actively network with faculty in the department on these research and extension projects, and with faculty in other disciplines. Opportunities to supervise students may exist.

In addition to the above-described duties, the individual will be expected to accept committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the administrative unit, college/division, institute, and or university level.

Some travel is required. Must meet driver standards according to UNL policy and have a valid driver’s license. Criminal history background check will be conducted.

Minimum Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree required; one degree in agricultural economics or closely related field. Master’s degree must be completed by start date.
• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders in publications, websites, and oral presentations.
• Training in economic theory, management principles, and quantitative methods and their application to applied problems.
• Knowledge of the development and use of enterprise budgeting techniques, farm and ranch production record keeping and financial management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with agricultural production systems in the Great Plains.
• Record of educational programs for students and/or stakeholders focused on the economics of agricultural production.
• Exhibited ability to work in teams and provide leadership.
