Description of Work

The Nebraska Food for Health Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking candidates for the position of Post-Doctoral Research Associate. One of the missions of this Center is to identify and characterize plant materials and components that perturb the gut microbiota in predictable ways. The successful candidate will pursue this mission by studying the chemical transformations of plant materials following human and microbial metabolism. The intent is for the incumbent to focus on carbohydrates structures, but this may change depending on interest and expertise. The incumbent will work directly under the supervision of Dr. Devin Rose, and will join a well-established interdisciplinary team of researchers actively working on microbial ecology, host genetics, dietary interventions, and host health. The candidate must have demonstrated analytical experience in chromatography, mass spectrometry, and/or nuclear magnetic spectroscopy. The candidate should be willing to handle microbial and human biological samples. Individuals applying for this position should have excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to work independently. The position is available immediately, and preference will be given to individuals that can start in the laboratory in the fall of 2017.

Minimum Required Qualifications

• PhD required in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Nutrition, or related field.
• Demonstrated analytical experience in chromatography, mass spectrometry, and/or nuclear magnetic spectroscopy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently.
