Description of Work

Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and teach courses within the Veterinary Technology Systems Division. Working as a member of a departmental team, educate and support students who will possess the skills necessary to pass the AVMA veterinary technician licensure exam upon graduation. Responsibilities include the development and updating of course syllabi, lesson plans, laboratory manuals, power point presentations, and course materials for both lecture and laboratory formats utilizing new technologies. Plan, develop, teach, and follow-up with students and instructors of Vet Tech short courses, continuing education, dual credit enrollment, and on-line courses using Canvas LMS technology as applicable. Assist with student academic advising and student management within the division. Maintain student progress and evaluation records on the Canvas system. Assess instructional supply needs for own instructional areas. Assist in carrying out college policies as developed by the college administration. Assist with recruiting and publicity, including tours of the college for prospective students, parents and visitors. Assist with internship experience coordination and visitations. Assist with advising, supervision, guidance, and fund-raising for extra-curricular student activities and student organizations. Improve student learning outcomes by following this process: a) work with your advisory council, division chair, and other professionals to identify appropriate program and course level student learning outcomes, b) list appropriate learning outcomes in every course syllabus, c) assess student learning outcomes in every course, d) use the results of assessment of student learning outcomes to improve learning in subsequent semesters, and e) report the results of your engagement in this process. Other duties as assigned, such as participating in shared governance by serving on college-wide committees.

Additional Specialized Position Duties:
Oversee health care of Veterinary Technology animals including weekend, holiday and emergency care. Maintain Nebraska license in Veterinary Medicine by attending appropriate continuing education courses. Through in-service activities, maintain proficiency and develop new skills in veterinary medicine, animal health and care. Liaison with veterinarians and technicians through association meetings, advisory meetings and internship visits. Attend Veterinary Technology faculty and staff meetings.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Possess a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA accredited professional program in Veterinary Medicine; be a Nebraska licensed veterinarian or able to obtain licensure within six months of hire; three years of recent mixed animal predominately large private practice experience in Veterinary Medicine.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of recent teaching experience; membership in the Nebraska Veterinary Medicine Association and/or American Veterinary Medical Association; recruiting and fundraising experience; previous experience sponsoring student activities and/or clubs and organizations.
