Description of Work

Position ensures that all animal care needs are met, maintained and compliant with all regulatory requirements. Monitors environmental parameters, provides upkeep of the facility by washing, sanitizing and sterilizing equipment, maintenance of procedure rooms, and other movable equipment. Communicate daily with the facility management, other animal care staff, and direct supervisor on matters pertinent to the conduct of studies and provision of animal care. Prepares and files all necessary documentation as required by regulations or internal SOP/policies. Ensures proper procedures are followed when receiving animals, feed, bedding and supplies. Irregular hours and weekends required.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree in agriculture or related field plus 2 years agriculture or related experience required; equivalent education/experience considered. Experience with livestock, dogs, cats and other lab animals will be considered. Ability to lift 50 lbs necessary. Precision, accuracy and attention to detail are essential along with effective communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision required. Ability to maintain equipment necessary. Solid comprehension of animal husbandry and understanding the importance of feed, water and medication as it pertains to animal care essential.

Preferred Qualifications

Veterinary Technician Certification or American Association for Laboratory Animal Science Certification preferred. Associates degree or higher degree in veterinary technology, agriculture or biological sciences desirable.
