Description of Work

Coordinate Human Resources and Payroll operations for the Nebraska Unions, the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center, Office of the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Civic Engagement, ’Children’s Center, Student Involvement, Dean of Students, Services for Students with Disabilities, ASUN, and Fraternity and Sorority Life. Facilitate and coordinate classification issues and compensation plans. Oversee the onboarding process for new employees (orientation, access to systems, parking, etc). Develop and implement training as needed for payroll and personnel processes and policies. Manage all computerized payroll and human resources functions and systems. Assist in payroll budgeting processes and procedures. Development and on-going maintenance of position descriptions for all staff. Oversee and implement all human resource and payroll policies. Oversee compliance for personnel records management and retention. Serve as a resource to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards to include: legal requirements for recruiting, interviewing, hiring, termination, EEO affirmative action and ADA.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business or related field plus four (4) years’ relevant Human Resources experience; Equivalent education/experience will be considered. Work history will show two (2) plus years of payroll and human resources experience; Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Requires excellent research, writing, and/or customer service skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of people.
Requires knowledge of federal/state employment, immigration and compensation law (ADA, Title VII, FLSA, FMLA, IRCA, etc.) and the ability to apply that knowledge to unprecedented activities in order to prevent or resolve problems or recommend appropriate courses of action (in consultation with UNL Human Resources as necessary).
Requires PC skills and sufficient knowledge of database principles to develop or assist in the development and maintenance of efficient personnel and payroll related systems that satisfy university processing requirements while meeting needs of end users and the organization as a whole.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidate will have knowledge of University policies and procedures on all personnel and payroll related matters, supervisory experience, process improvement experience, database design experience, higher education experience, SAP experience- including accounting, and Working knowledge of Word Processing, Spreadsheet applications and Microsoft Access experience.
Additionally, knowledge of issues related to special visas for international employees and students, Exercise independent judgement and possess problem solving skills; the ability to handle multiple projects at any given time, work with diverse groups of people and to hire, train, and manage people successfully to reach desired goals. Apply quality performance appraisal techniques.
