Description of Work

Provide assistance in conducting a USDA grant-funded research project. The laboratory is primarily a molecular virology lab studying viral pathogens. The incumbent is expected to perform experiments involving various cellular and molecular techniques – mainly tissue culture, RNA and DNA preparation, and PCR. Duties will also include the maintenance of lab inventory and reagents. Assist undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the lab, when needed.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, or related field plus one year of experience working in biology/microbiology laboratory required; equivalent education/experience considered. Experience with molecular biology protocols, such as DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, and tissue culture essential. Must have basic knowledge of laboratory protocols and an understanding of biological and chemical safety. Must have a working knowledge of aseptic techniques and basic microbiology skills.

Preferred Qualifications

At least one year of experience in tissue culture, DNA cloning. Working knowledge of immunology and basic immune assays such as ELISAs, ELISpots, and western blots.
